Cholesterol

I got my cholesterol tested in July  and it was 8.0. I cut out animal fats and dairy products completely and I got tested again recently. My second test read 7.9 virtually no improvement. My GP says that he can put me on medication to breakdown the cholesterol, but I am reluctant to go on any long-term medication. My blood pressure and ECG were normal and I am a non-smoker for over 16 years. I am 60 years old and I exercise 3 or 4 times per week. V.disappointed with my result and wonder if there is anything else I should be doing or if anybody else has had a similar experience??

Hi Brendan

I'm sure its v.disappointing for u - i had a similar experience and worked v.hard with my diet. It was not enough, however, and in the end my GP prescribed a drug which I can tolerate very well. After 3 months I had  it down from 7 to 5 and i havent looked back since. Hope this helps.
