Hi everyone
I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread on this topic as all too often it is a subject that is ignored or just not talked about. If you or somebody you know is suffering from depression, it might be helpful to join a discussion such as this. If we join together in friendship, we can offer support to each other in all its forms. You never know your account of what you are experinecing may strike a chord with somebody else and they may not feel so alone.
I really hope that this thread will take off as I think people can help each other so much and nobody should feel alone.
Love Twinky xx

Hi Twinky
I think this thread is a great idea. I have suffered from depression all my life. I stopped taking anti depressants two years ago and try to practice meditation and mindfulness on a daily basis. I also find exercise a great release. It's a constant battle and I've learned to live with it but keep looking over my shoulder for the dark shadow to appear. It really is a case of taking it one day at a time.

It is very important that people feel needed, and it can be so difficult - the "empty nest syndrome" when grown up children leave home, for example. Depression and other related illnesses doesn't mean that we don't see the lighter side of life, and there is humour and it is the ability to laugh at ourselves, which can help us through very bad times. I think this thread is a great idea if people want to open up. Getting older can often be lonely, especially if children and grandchildren live far away. I try to keep as busy as possible - going on Active Retirement outings, ICA etc.
