Age and Opportunity

Age & Opportunity is the national not-for-profit organisation that promotes opportunities for greater participation by older people in society through partnerships and collaborative programmes.

Our vision is for an Ireland where all older people have the opportunity to realise their full potential and participate in an inclusive society.

We promote creativity, participation, confidence and engagement among older people. Age & Opportunity works with partners to create opportunities to learn, to take part and to make a difference.

As people who are ageing, we have much to contribute and to share. Our practical programmes have grown from different ways of cultivating involvement by people who are 50 and older. Some tap into latent skills, talents and abilities. Others tackle attitudes to ageing and discrimination which hold people back from taking part in full.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we work in a developmental way with public and private organisations to deliver practical programmes, training and age equality workshops. Some of our major partners include the Health Service Executive, the Arts Council, the Irish Sports Council and Local Sports Partnerships.

Age & Opportunity programmes:

Go for Life – promoting greater participation by older people in sport and physical activity.

Creative Exchanges - Using the arts to transform the experience of residents and staff in care centres for older people.

Agewise - Raising awareness of ageism among policymakers and service providers whose work affects the lives of older people.

Ageing with Confidence - Helping people to explore their own ageing in a positive way to maintain health and well-being.

Get Vocal - Strengthening the voice of older people in Irish society.
