Citizen's Information Board

The Citizens Information Board (CIB) is the statutory body which supports the provision of information, advice and advocacy to the public on the broad range of social and civil services. It provides the Citizens Information website (www.citizensinformation.ie) and supports the voluntary network of Citizens Information Services (260 locations nationwide) and the Citizens Information Phone Service (1890 777 121)

As we get older, we find that our lives can change dramatically.  Our social networks and information channels can be disrupted by life changes such as retiring or moving in to residential care and this is when information needs are most acute.  The CIB meet the important information needs of older people by producing publications such as Entitlements for Over Sixties which is a useful and practical guide to services and rights for the over sixties and their families.

In addition, as part of the Information Age initiative the CIB provide booklets and factsheets on areas of special interest to older people such as Retirement, Becoming Ill, Bereavement, Health Services, Income & Support and Safety & Security and directs people to a wide range of organisations that are able to answer questions relating to these topics.

All publications are available online and in print. They can also be provided in alternative formats, such as braille, large print or on CD, on request. Further information is available by contacting your local Citizens Information Centre or Lo-Call 1890 777 121 or by contacting the Citizens Information Board at 01 6059000 or emailing info@ciboard.ie

Another useful resource provided by the CIB is the Assist Ireland website (www.assistireland.ie) which contains a directory of products available from Irish suppliers for people with disabilities and older people. The site features a helpful information section that describes how these products can be sourced and how they can be used to assist people in their daily living.
