We recently stayed at the Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny on a mid-week package. It was good value for money for a 5 star hotel. There is a lovely ambience in the hotel and the breakfast is top class - the natural honey and figs are worth a mention. Staff were friendly and attentive. We found dinner in the Restaurant to be somewhat mediocre - just thought it would be better for a 5 star hotel. The grounds are impressive and the golden retrievers a welcome sight on arrival. It is a bit outside the city so you would need a car  to get into town.  It's an easy drive from Dublin. Would we go back - yes but only with a good value package.
