Sheraton, Fota Island

The Sheraton, Fota Island, Co. Cork.

A few months ago I holidayed with my daughter, her husband and their baby daughter in Cork. We stayed for three nights in the Sheraton Hotel on Fota Island, about 5 miles from Cork City Centre.
If you’re into golf (I’m not), it’s the place to go. If you’re into the spa (I am), it’s pure heavan. Not cheap mind you but it is a five star hotel and like all hotels they were offering a good deal.
The main attraction in the area is the Fota Wildlife Park which I didn’t visit as I had been there before. However, I discovered Fota House which is situated in the grounds and what a hidden gem. Absolutely no advertising of it anywhere which is a shame as the gardens are absolutely magnificent. Their coffee shop is gorgeous and the homemade cakes and coffee come highly reccomended.

Overall we had a lovely time – service and food were both excellent. It is expensive but if you’re treating yourself it’s probably worth it.
Only quibble is that the grounds of the hotel are not very exiting for walking around – it’s a golf course really so you will need your car if you want to go anywhere. Nearby Cobh and the Middleton Distillery are worth a visit.
