Review of Brehon Hotel, Killarney, Co.Kerry

In June 2009, we stayed for 2 nights in the Brehon Hotel which is located on the Muckross Road. Years ago we always stayed in the neighbouring Gleneagle, especially in the summer with all the cabaret acts etc. The Brehon Hotel is certainly more upmarket and not all that expensive - we got a very good deal. The hotel's motto is based on the ancient Brehon laws of hospitality and this was certainly reflected in the service which was top class. The restaurant is excellent and the rooms extremely comfortable. It's a modern hotel but with an old feel to it - a bit like some of the hotels you find in Asia. I'm not into the whole Spa thing but my wife seemed very happy with her experience. There's always plenty going on Killarney and the hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk into the town centre. It's also near the National Park though it is handy to have a car if you want to get to Muckross House, Ross Castle etc.

My only small gripe was that the service for lunch in the bar could have been faster. It was very busy that day so maybe that explains it but if you were in a hurry I think you would be a bit peeved. Apart from that, we had a truely excellent time and will look forward to returning again to Killarney - the Brehon will certainly be amongst our top places to stay in this beautiful town.
